King’s Quest: A Knight to Remember

Reboots are big in Hollywood, but what about video games? In a way King’s Quest is a reboot of the classic Sierra adventure game.

I remember sitting in my bedroom, in front of my Amiga, playing Sierra’s classic games King’s Quest, Police Quest, Space Quest and Leisure Suit Larry when I was a kid. Many many frustrated hours I spent trying to figure out the many mind bending puzzles. It was a magical time back then, these games actually had graphics, and sound, and story and most importantly charm.

Fast forward to today and I am still playing King’s Quest, albeit a new King’s Quest, developed by The Odd Gentlemen with the blessing of Ken and Roberta Williams, the founders of Sierra and creators of the original series.

Immediately when I booted up the game I was enthralled by the art style, I immediately thought about Dragons Lair, maybe it’s the cape. Everything is so smooth and clean looking. I was surprised yet again at how user friendly the game is and how everything quickly becomes second nature.

Where can I get a cape like that?!

The vocal work in the game is very diverse and is executed flawlessly which is no surprise as the cast is one of the best collections of amazing talented celebrities around. The feeling while playing King’s Quest is the same feeling I get when watching Princess Bride, which is no real surprise as it is one of the inspirations for the game. I still can’t get over how excellent Christopher Lloyd is as King Graham.

Unlike a lot of games King’s Quest is one that I truly believe to be one of the top games for family friendly fun. Everything works so smoothly that King’s Quest is not only a joy to play but also a joy to watch. I can’t wait to check out episode two.

Final Thoughts

A delightful revisiting of the King's Quest series, with more to come in this episodic masterpiece.

Overall Score 4.5
